Our rural schools which receive the book boxes participated in a reading competition. This started at school level, and then proceeded to competition between the schools in each of five clusters, and then the finals were held between the winners from each cluster.
Children competing at the cluster level
The final was held at the library in Gwanda on June 15. Ntepe Primary from Gwanda South were the overall winners in the district, while Dambashoko Primary from Gwanda North were the runners up.
Winners, from Ntepe Primary School
The winners claimed a brand new floating trophy and each child on the winning team received a medal. Ntepe school received a US$100 voucher to buy books, and the runners up received a US$50 voucher.
We hope this will become an annual tradition to inspire children to read and to read well!
