Starting March 1, books were delivered to the recently re-opened schools. But a new system is being used.
The books selected at the library in Gwanda are delivered to the schools in plastic tubs. Here children move the books from our van into the classroom. The tubs are lighter than the wooden boxes and cause less wear and tear on the vehicle.
Excitement to see what is in the box
At the schools, the books are transferred to the wooden boxes, which now remain at the schools. The boxes last longer when not subjected to the rigors of being transported over poor roads.
Here, the teacher is checking the books after they have been placed in the box.
At the end of the term, the books will be replaced in the plastic tub for transport back to Gwanda. There, some will be repaired and others will be replaced, and a new selection of books will be provided for the next term.
